'The Carpet & Rug Institute' mean to you?

The Carpet & Rug Institute is an independent organization that tests the performace of machinery related to rug and carpet cleaning. They offer 4 levels of approval on the machinery they test: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum (the highest).

So, if you're in the market for a professional level carpet extraction machine then the CRI rating system could be a very useful tool for you. If you're currently weighing the features on several different machines to purchase then the CRI rating, if available, is a strong factor to consider.

The CRI Seal of Approval uses 3 areas to evaluate a carpet extraction machine on performance:

• Soil Removal - How well does the machine remove the dirt and soiling from a carpet? How much is left behind? They use a NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence technology to precisely measure the dirt left behind, so no subjective human evaluation is involved (ie. no personal judgement).
• Water Removal - How much water is left behind? The amount of moisture left in your carpeting will affect your drying time. In general it's better to have your just-cleaned carpets dry faster to avoid unpleasant odors from wetness. (Have you ever opened a washing machine after it's been closed and out of use for a week? Not pleasant.)
• Texture Rentention - Does the machine harm the carpet fibers in any way? Does the original texture of the carpet return after the cleaning and drying are complete?
